May 3, 2011 eNewsletter

Greetings from EBCALA!

I am writing to tell you about several new developments.

EBCALA’s New Website

We have a new and improved website, thanks to the generous contribution of Steering Committee member Lynne Arnold. Please check it out at It outlines our mission to serve the legal needs of the autism community, what we’ve done, and what we’ve got planned. If you’re receiving this e-newsletter, you’re on our email list. If you know others who should be on the list, please forward this email this to them (click on "forward to a friend" at the bottom of this email) and invite them to join EBCALA. EBCALA also has its own Facebook page that Board member Jennifer Keefe keeps up to date on legal developments in autism. Please take a look there too.

Dallas, Texas EBCALA Fundraiser

EBCALA was the lucky beneficiary of a recent Texas fundraiser that brought 400 people together to “Rock Against Autism.” Check out photos from the shindig at our Facebook page. Big thanks to Jennifer Keefe for helping to organize this event!

Annual EBCALA Conference

EBCALA is looking towards its third annual conference on May 26 in Chicago during Autism One. EBCALA is sponsoring two legal education tracks this year, both for continuing legal education credit (CLE). Track 1 is a thorough overview of the many legal challenges that face the autism community, in family law, insurance law, vaccine law, special education law, and criminal law. This track will pull together tremendous lawyers and advocates who are fighting for justice for the autism community. Learn more.

Track 2 is one of the best training available anywhere on what ASD parents, advocates and lawyers need to know about special education law. While Track 2 is not appropriate for the advanced special education lawyer, it is entirely appropriate for lawyers who have expertise in other areas and are seeking to deepen their knowledge in this area. Learn more.

Both Tracks carry up to 8 CLE credits in most states; check here. You can sign up for CLE credit now for $200; it will cost $275 after May 15 and at the conference.

Be an EBCALA Sponsor

You or your firm can be a sponsor of the EBCALA conference; CLE will be included, and we will include your name or your firm’s name in all our promotional literature. Check out the lawyers and individuals who have already sponsored us!

EBCALA Now Officially Tax Exempt

This year, EBCALA has become an independent, tax-exempt organization, having received 501c3 status from the Internal Revenue Service. All contributions to EBCALA are now tax-exempt to the fullest extent of the law. We welcome any contributions through the website or by check.

Let Us Know What’s on Your Mind

We are very much at the ground floor of EBCALA’s development. Please send us your thoughts on how we can better meet the legal needs of the autism community.

In closing, thank you for your past support of EBCALA and its mission.

Best wishes,

Mary Holland
Managing Director, EBCALA
